Takehito SHIINA (1973-)
Born in Hanamaki, Iwate, Japan. Takehito Shiina is known for his Kazan-yaki (Magma Firings): the sculptural work series which he created on location at various volcanoes around the world. His recent project is The Photosynthesizers which investigates how to make the chimera from photosynthetic bacterium and human being. In Shiina's practice, we can see both the method of science and conceptualization of social sculpture. The main theme of his creation is 'transmutation of things', however he takes various ways to make his art works. |
